Picture yourself one of 15 artists invited to make art in a unique communal studio at the Mabel Dodge Luhan House in Taos, New Mexico. Count yourself among the legendary artists who were inspired by the beauty and quality of the light and the mystical attraction of Taos Mountain. You are giving yourself the gift of time, free from distraction, to concentrate on your art in the company of like-minded artists.
This is the environment created for a special artist-in-residency program, a place for experienced artists to work independently alongside each other. The days are open to pursue our art. What makes this retreat unusual, however, is that we’ll also visit the studios of three selected artists, and can use these visits as inspiration for our own work. I promise to deliver some eye-popping glimpses into the creative life of Taos. My aim is to create an inspiring setting where each of us will be stimulated to do our best work.
Participants will be responsible for supplying their own materials and direction. The studio will be open 24 hours a day. Each artist will have a 3’ x 8’ table to work on, and an accompanying wall space. The day will begin with a brief meeting at 9:00 am, after which participants are free to work as they choose, in or out of the studio. We’ll meet at Mabel’s table for dinner and conversation in the evening. Participants will arrange for their own lunches and one night is open to have dinner on the town. The studio visits will be announced ahead of time so that artists can plan their days effectively. Feedback sessions and critiques will be organized if the group so desires.
